My mountain top experience, Aug 23rd, 2005, South Sister, OR

On Friday, Aug 22nd, I hiked with Marv Newcombe, Dewayne Williams, and John Williamson from the Devil's Lake campground up to Morain Lake ... took about 2 hours (7pm to 9pm) ... then left camp @ 730am Sat ... got to the summit at about 1230 ... headed back down about 130 ... got back to the camp at about 4 ... headed back to the car at about 530pm ... to the bottom at about 7pm ... ug ... what a long day. Here's me at the top of South Sister (looking down on Middle Sister and North Sister :-)) ... 10,358 feet ...

Here's the team (me, John, Dewayne, Marv) ...

Here's my favorite picture ... I'll never forget taking it ... the feeling that I was *DONE* ... that I'd already done as much "UP" as I could do ... and yet it felt like this was still just the beginning ... too much ... ah, the power of "right, left, right, left ... just one step at a time!". That's Marv above me ... at the beginning of "the red wall" = the final stage up ... this is the EASY part ... notice we were not alone ... ranger said it was the most he'd seen in one day ... probably close to 300 folks that day ...

Ask me about it sometime ... I can talk about a lot ... unforgetable! For more info about South Sister, check out

Funny Foxtrot Comic

This comic (Foxtrot from 5/9/05) made me laugh ... perhaps it was funnier right when the final Star Wars movie was coming out ... but I still chuckle when I see it :-)
